A Touch of Persia @ Universal

I had the pleasure last week of attending the launch of celebrated chef Greg Malouf's new book at the beautiful Universal in Sydney's Darlinghurst. Having visited Greg's amazing restaurant Momo's in Melbourne I've definitely been a fan and loved his books on middle eastern food and was very excited about the book.
The menu for the night was taken from recipes in the book which is called SARABAN and was delicious, and  made you feel like you were on the journey with them.

Here are some pictures of the beautiful food on the night courtesy of the lovely Mel Port from http://www.miacucina.com.au from entrĂ©e through to desert.

The book is absolutely beautiful with some amazing pictures of ancient Persia and modern day Iran, intermingled with recipes. A great Christmas gift or even if its for yourself its definitely worth getting check it out on http://gregmalouf.com.au/cms/ or at any good bookstore.

Jewellery with a difference - Icarus and Co

I love finding interesting pieces of jewellery that are innovative but also practical, and sometimes it means looking abroad. With Icarus and Co you get the amazing with the practical but also a piece of jewellery that you wont find on everyone else.

"The Origin of Icarus - from Ancient Greece unfolds the story of the cunningly creative inventor Daedalus and his son Icarus, who were banished to the island of Crete. In attempting to escape, Daedalus constructed wings out of feathers and wax. He cautioned his son to take heed of the sun's overwhelming heat, but the destructively adventurous Icarus flew too close, melting his fashioned wings. Reckless exploration lead to his eventual demise, as Icarus plummeted towards the sea. His spirit rests forever at the bottom of the ocean.

Inspired by the ill-fated adventurer, Icarus & Co. creates jewelry using the earth's and the sea's natural materials and designs.

Krys DeMauro and Caroline Mullen are the founders and creators of Icarus & Co"

Here a few pictures of some of the pieces from their collection.

Check out their blog on http://icarusandco.blogspot.com/ or website http://www.icarusandco.com and the best time to shop is now with the amazing exchange rate between the US and Australian dollar woo hoo.

Sonoma need I say More????

Sonoma bakery is well known to those around the East as a beacon of great baking, good coffee and good pastries. I must admit I am definately a disciple and will travell the distance for a morsel from hands of Sonoma, sounds crazy but worth every step.

So whenever I am at Five Ways in Paddington I always make it my business to grab a coffee and perhaps one of their delicous quiches, if that doesnt catch your fancy then try the chicken or beef sandwhiches which are amazing. So on a lazy Sunday afternoon or perhaps for a relaxed Saturday morning breakfast don't be shy pop in to one, either on Dank Street in Waterloo or Glenmore Rd Paddington.

mEN'S sUMMER eSSENTIALS - iTS A sHOE iN PART 1

It's being a while since my last post and I have to admit I've being extremely busy working on a couple of different projects from co-designing and making a new range of denim and leather bags, working on 2 new food and wine projects and finishing a new dance track I helped co-write and sing on.

Now I haven't had time to even think about prepping my Spring/Summer wardrobe until I had to take a private styling client shopping last Saturday. I spent the week sourcing items for her wardrobe and amidst my frantic sourcing trips took note of my must haves for Summer.

This is my first pick for my Spring/Summer wardrobe a staple must have item that'll keep me going all Summer. From Country Road comes this beige, leather and canvas - tennis style shoe. The sole is a thinner one to most similar shoes and the beige sets it apart from the more common white ones. teamed with a pair of rolled up chino's or dark blue denims they work as both a night alternative or daytime wear.
So head in before they go, at the steal price of $49.95 they're sure to disappear quickly.

Plenty to do with Dukkah @ The Souk

The 3 different Dukkah flavours

On a cold and rainy day last week I had the pleasure of being invited by the lovely folk at http://www.markcomms.com.au/ to attend a food product launch at the beautiful Souk in The City. Table of Plenty an Australian company that makes a range of beautiful Dukkah products put on a delicious lunch to bring more awareness to the range. I must admit prior to the lunch I hadn't realised I could purchase yummy Australian made Dukkah in the supermarket.
The lovely owner of Souk in The City demonstrated 3 different entrees using the 3 different Dukkah's, and lunch served was absolutely delicous. Considering I'm on a fitness regime the products fit right in to my diet healthy, delicous, easy to use and easily accesible.
It was definitely a nice change to attend a Sydney product launch that was all about the product in the truest sense of the word. So next time in your local Coles or Woolworths pick up a packet of Dukkah,
hop on line @ www.tableofplenty.com.au for recipes and enjoy because I've definitely had fun experimenting with my products.

Shirt Happens - www.miamilive.com.au

Working as a free lance fashion stylist, I find it challenging at time's to keep my male clients always looking fresh and fashion forward without looking gimmicky. Men unlike women don't have a lot of choice - a shirt, pair of pants and sometimes a jacket. It's definitely a God send when a company like www.miamilive.com.au comes along with a range of shirts in different cuts, colours and styles.

The guys I work with have being going crazy over the range and I think so will most guys out there given the chance. You can check out the range on line or book an appointment and head in to their Paddington office. They do have a special 10% off the total price offer on now, so don't miss out and buy your Dad something for Fathers Day or something to spruce up your wardrobe.

My Secret Sunday Spot

I love lazy Sunday brunches sitting in the winter sunlight sipping at a well made coffee and of course nibbling on some yummy morsel of food. Now every now and then you come across a little spot that despite your generosity you just want to keep to yourself. This little place I'm writing about today is one such place, the only clue you'll get about the name of the place is the first picture below :)

I went with my co-creator of new underground dining group "Company of Strangers" the lovely Mel Port who has just returned from a food tour of the Middle East ( lucky her ) Now just a few recommendations- ask for the brioche with egg, ham and hollandaise ( add avocado gives it an extra zoomp) or the sourdough toast with avocado, tomato, basil and olive oil, or the pesto scramble eggs or the breakfast board ( I know, I know too many choices lol they're all good though ).
Of course the service is fantastic and the barrista makes the yummiest coffees.
Have fun treasure Hunting :)

Tap in @ The Local Taphouse

My friend Henrik and I try and catch up once a week to discuss creative ideas for gigs, tv shows etc. Each week we try and hang out at one of the local pubs in Surry Hills, but this week i decided we'd go further afield. It definitely was not much of a stretch lol over towards Darlinghurst to check out the newly renovated and aptly called The Local Taphouse. With the the ground level of the pub taken up with a charity event we ventured upstairs to the cosy and creatively decorated restaurant space which I immediately became enamoured with.

Bird cages transformed in to light features, dark wood walls and floors, old books and sports equipment in glass boxes and best of all a yummy menu and for all those beer enthusiasts more then 14 beers on tap.
I was on a food restriction so it was the baked pumpkin and beetroot salad for me (minus the pumpkin lol) and Henrik had the Beef Burger with wedges and onion rings ( I had food envy all through dinner lol ).

All in all The Local Taphouse is an untapped gem smack in the middle of Surry Hills, Paddington and Darlinghurst, the decor is amazing, food and beer and wines delicious and the service friendly and inviting. Do check it out and tell me what you think???
